Ariella Maron

Over my almost twenty-year career in the private and public sectors, I have led the development and implementation of far reaching solutions to a broad set of urban challenges across the disciples of urban planning, local government policy, infrastructure, and economic development.  I have always been interested in the intersection of policy, design, and technology, and the impact they collectively have on the natural and built environment and on people’s lives. I continue to be inspired by the work of communities and local governments across the country to use these tools to make their neighborhoods safer and cleaner, and I have worked to help accelerate their progress and turn sustainability policies, designs, and investments into the status quo.

I started Lion Advisors for Community and Environment (Lion) in late 2017 to apply my experience in the development and implementation of energy, climate action, sustainability, and land use programs to help communities scale up their efforts and see more substantial progress. Prior to starting Lion, I led strategic consulting services for BuroHappold Engineering’s Cities group, where I managed a number of ambitious and innovative plans, including New York’s City’s Roadmp to 80 x 50, as well as economic development initiatives, planning competitions, district master plans, and research projects.

Before consulting, I spent ten years working for the City of New York in a variety of capacities, first as a community planner at the Bronx Office of the Department of City Planning, then as an energy policy advisor for the NYC Economic Development Corporation, the Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability, and finally as the Deputy Commissioner for Energy Management at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services. In that role, I created and led the effort to reshape the energy performance of the City's 3,000+ existing buildings, implemented a number of clean energy projects, and helped establish the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation, a non-profit financial corporation that assists in implementing energy efficiency and clean energy installations
